Dear Reader,
I chose to do my Multi-genre Author Project over Roald Dahl because I read so many of his books as a child. In elementary school, especially in fourth and fifth grade, we read a lot of his books including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG, Matilda, and James and the Giant Peach. I remember actually wanting to read these books everyday, we thought it was punishment if we did not get to find out what happened next. Since I would not have looked up anything about the author of these books when I was younger, I decided to research him in this project.
Before I began my research I really did not know much about Dahl. I knew he was the mastermind behind the books that I read all those years ago but nothing more than that. The majority of my research came from two websites, his official website and the biography of him on Bio.com. These two had just about everything I needed for my project.
During my research, I learned that Dahl actually started out his career writing short stories for adults. He did not start his career as a children’s writer until he had children of his own. They were the ones behind his change from adult to childrens books. Dahl believed that reading should not be a daunting task for kids, he thought it should be something that they enjoy doing. The difference this research project has made on me and others is that is has given us the opportunity to expand our knowledge on a British author. I hope you enjoy learning about one of the most captivating children's authors.
Sincerly,
Sarah Smith
